Aupaki Music Festival Tonight Sumner school as well as all the schools within Aupaki, performed a range of musical pieces. Well doe to all of the students who have been working hard learning their instrument throughout the year. |

Year 5 - 8 Athletics Over the past two days, the Year 5 - 8 students have been taking part in the School Athletics competition. Those students who placed in the top 2 will now compete in the Zone Athletics competition being held in a few weeks. |

Book Week Throughout the week we have been celebrating book week. We have had an Author visit to talk to all year levels about being an Author, drop everything and read and the Book Parade. |

Awaroa Camp This week the Awaroa Team have been experiencing their annual camp at Waipara Adventure Centre. They participated in a range of activities from Flying Kiwi, crate stacking to an amazing water slide. |

Tūranga STEM Club Visit Today a group of students from all year levels visited Tūranga Library to take part in a range of STEM activities. One of the activities was to build items using LEGO. |

Aupaki Bays Cluster Rock Band Tonight the 2 Rock Bands from Sumner School performed at Lyttelton School. There were performances from all of the schools with the Aupaki. Well done to the everyone who performed. Photos will be uploaded soon. |

Cultural Festival Tonight the Kapa Haka performed at the Horncastle Arena. They performed a number of song as well as a Poi song. This is an amazing event were Schools all over Christchurch come together to perform and share what they have been learning during Kapa Haka Practice. |

This week 14 students in Year 8 have been on an Overseas Learning Experience visiting Vanuatu. They have been visiting schools, exploring amazing places around Vanuatu and experiencing the cultural practices.

Aupaki Cultural Festival Tonight the students in Kapa Haka performed a range of songs along with other schools from the Aupaki. We had performances from Our Lady Star of the Sea, Redcliffs, Heathcote, Mt Pleasant, and Sumner School. It was a wonderful evening where students were able to showcase what they have been learning during Kapa Haka practices. |

EPRo8 Challenge The EPRo8 Challenge for the Year 5 - 8 students was held here in the Sumner School hall. The EPRo8 Challenge is a competition, an engineering and problem solving race. Well done to all of the students who took part. The Tech Turtles from the Te Onopoto Team will be heading to the finals. |

Mihi Whakatau Today the whole school greeted all of our International students with a traditional Mihi Whakatau. We have a number of International students around our school and they will be with us for 4 weeks. We also have 4 International students from China in the Awaroa Team for a week. |

New Building Blessing Today started with a blessing ceremony for our new building. Everyone was welcomed into our new building after each space had been blessed. The 5 to 8 students have been spent the day exploring their new spaces. |

Youthtown 10's Tournament Today 30 students from Awaroa competed in the Youthtown 10's Tournament. They played European Handball and Kabaddi. One of our 3 teams placed 2nd in the overall competition. All of the students received the Youthtown Values Award. |

Awaroa Volunteer Day Today the students of Awaroa volunteered their time to complete a range of projects in the community. This terms Inquiry focus was on 'Relationships''. The students Volunteered at Ronald McDonald House, Sumner Gardens, Sumner Community Hub, Matuku Takotako Library, Crafting at Edith Cavell Lifecare, Collecting for the City Mission, Knitting for the Neonatal Trust, building playground equipment for the Rapanui students, and preparing as well as cooking for all of the Awaroa students as a celebration. Thank you to all of the sponsors and the parent helpers for making this day possible. |

Sumnervale Planting Day Today the Year 5 - 8 students planted hundreds of plants. They were planted to rejuvenate the stream. The students worked in teams to plant and protect the trees from the wind. We hope that this will help our environment and that the stream becomes a lot healthier in the future. |

Art Enrichment Today the students in the Art Enrichment group worked with Ms Scoular to complete a number of art works which represent different aspects of our community. They will be displayed in our learning areas. |

Canterbury Cross Country Today the students who placed in the Zone Cross Country event, competed in the Canterbury Cross Country. it was a create day and one of our students will now be heading away to the Regional Cross Country event. |

Riverdale County School Visit This week we have had 13 students visit our school and stay with hosts from Riverdale Country School. They have been busy exploring Christchurch, the Gondola as well as working at the Urban Garden in the heart of the city. It was great to make the connection between our school and a school from New York. |

Pink Ribbon Breakfast Today the Year 7 & 8 girls held the annual Pink Ribbon Breakfast to raise money for Breast Cancer. A special visitor arrived to their Breakfast. Marg Foster is a Pink riboon Breakfast ambassador, ex Sliver Fern and New Zealand netball coach. In total the girls raised $365! |

Aupaki Techfest Over the last two days 96 students across the Aupaki Schools participated in the Techfest event. There were 8 workshops including e-textiles, app creators to programming makey makey's. Students experienced the opportunity to use a range of digital tools. |

Cross Country Today the Year 3 - 8 students participated in the School Cross Country event. This year the Cross Country was held at School. There were two events, the competitive event and the participation event. Those students that took part in the competitive event and placed will head off to represent Sumner School in the Zone event being held later on this term. |

Pink Shirt Day Today all of the students at Sumner School dressed in pink to show their support and join the movement to stop bullying and spread aroha and kindness. This was a great way to end the week which focused on anti bullying. |

Youthtown Programme Today the Year 7 and 8 students started their sports programme with Youthown. This term they will be learning Kabbadi and European handball. At the end of the term teams will be selected who will compete in an all day tournament. |

Spelling Quiz Competition Tonight 1 group from the Te Onopoto and Awaroa Team competed in a spelling quiz competition held at South Intermediate School. Well done to the students who participated. |

Volunteer Speakers Today in the hall 12 volunteers from around our Sumner spoke to Awaroa students about their volunteering roles. Our volunteers consisted of Fire fighters, ambulance officers, Big Brother and Big Sister volunteers just to name a few. The students learnt a lot about volunteering. |

Willowbank Trip with Glendal Today the Glendal students and their hosts visited Willowbank. They were lucky enough to see a Kiwi. They all enjoyed seeing the local wildlife and feeding the eels. |

Mihi Whakatau for Glendal Visitors Today our Glendal visitors arrived from Melbourne. 10 Students will be staying with families in Sumner and experiencing our School and wider community. They were greeting and welcomed into our School with a Mihi Whakatau. |

House Day Today the whole school celebrated house day by dressing up in their house colours. At lunchtime the classes joined together to eat their lunches and also get to know who is in each house. The House Captains then led a house colours dance party in the hall. |

Zone Swimming Sports Today students who placed 1st or 2nd in the School Swimming Sports competition competed in the Zone Swimming Sports event held at Jellie Park. Our students did very well, placing in many events. These students will now head away to the Canterbury Swimming Sports event being held later on in March. |

Aupaki Top Town Over a the last 2 days, the Year 7 and 8 students have been taking part in the Top Town event. This event was run across the 7 Aupaki Schools and students participate in a range of team building activities. |

Year 0-2 Splash and Dash Today the Year 0 - 2 students took part in the Splash and Dash. Students swim the width of the pool, before running a circuit around the field. Well done to everyone who participated. |

Year 5 - 8 Swimming Sports Today the Year 5 - 8 teams competed in the School Swimming sports. It was a sunny day, and nearly all of the students in both teams competed. Well done to everyone who took part. The top placings will now head off to the Zone Swimming Sports competition being held later on in the term. |

Year 5 & 6 Girls Cricket Today the Year 5 & 6 Girls Cricket team competed against West Spreydon School. It was a close game with West Spreydon winning the game by approximately 20 runs. |

Beach Education Year 3 & 4 Students from Years 3 & 4 have been taking part in the Beach Education programme in Sumner. Students took part in activities including learning all about how to be safe in the ocean as well as beach games. |

Welcome Powhiri Today we welcomed all of the new students, Mrs Collins, Mrs Smyth, Miss Douglas and Elly to Sumner School. There was also a very special welcome to Mrs Granger in her role as our new Principal. It was wonderful to see the whole school gather together to welcome everyone. |
