Year 5 - 8 Triathlon Today students from Years 5 - 8 competed in the School Triathlon. This involved swimming, running and biking. It was great to see everyone giving it a go in individual to team events. |

Halloween Disco Today the PTA and Student Council held a Halloween disco. Everyone who attended dressed up in their Halloween outfits and danced to the music. Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen. |

Aupkai Music Concert Today students from all of the Aupkai Kāhui Ako schools performed musical pieces. This included the CSM band, Choirs, musical instrument students who all came together to perform. |

Year 5 - 8 Athletics Today the students from the Year 5 - 8 Teams competed in Athletics. This involved shotput, high jump, long distance, sprints, and long jump. Well done to everyone for giving it a go. The students who placed will now head away to the Zone Athletics on Tuesday the 6th November. |

Tech Fest Over the past two day, students from the Aupaki schools have been participating in the Tech Fest. This event is where students learn through using a range of digital tools, for example, programming speros, using photography to create stop motion movies, using makey makey's and much more. |

SOD Turning Event Today the whole school gathered together to participate in the SOD Turning event held where Te Manawa once stood. The oldest and youngest student from the school turned the soil over together. A sod-turning ceremony, also known as a groundbreaking ceremony, marks the start of a new building project. |

Year 7 ad 8 Camp This week the Year 7 and 8 Team went on camp to Hanmer Springs. Students participated in mountain biking, tree climbing, mission impossible and much more. It was great to experience the outdoors. |

National Robocup Competition Today Mrs Granger, Naomi and Isolde flew down to Dunedin to compete in the National Robotics Competition. They have been working very hard since the Regionals to fine tune their performance and the results were amazing. Well done to the girls who placed 3rd in the Nationals. |

Staff V Students Netball Game Today the Year 7 and 8 Netball Team versed the staff in a game of Netball. This was a very close game, which resulted in the staff just managing to win the game. |

Aupaki Rocks Congratulations to the two Sumner rock bands that performed so well at tonight's Aupaki Rocks event at the LAF (Lyttelton Arts Factory). The event featured rock bands from all of the Aupaki primary schools. There was some wonderful talent on display and some future stars in the making. Thank you to all of the tutors who have worked with these groups, particularly Rob Tate who took a lead roll in organising tonight's showcase. |

Canterbury Cultural Festival Tonight the Kapa Haka students performed at the Horncastle Arena. They have been practicing for this event all year with their Tutor and Miss McRae. It was an amazing performance and you should all be very proud. |

Canterbury Winter Sports Tournament Today teams from the years 5 -8 competed at the Canterbury Winter tournament. There were two Netball teams and one Football team. Congratulations especially to the Year 7&8 netball team who placed 1st in Canterbury. Great effort!! |

Cantamaths Competition Tonight 8 students from the Year 7 and 8 Team competed in the Cantamaths Competition held at the CBS Arena. Both teams placed in the upper half of the competition, however placings are yet to be finalised. |

Aupaki Cultural Festival Today Sumner School held the Aupaki Cultural Festival in the hall. School's from across the Aupaki Ako performed their Kapa Haka songs. This included Heathcote Valley School, Our Lady Star of the Sea, Redcliffs School, Mt Pleasant School and Sumner School. |

Robocop Regional Competition Today 3 groups of students from the Year 7 and 8 competed in the Robotics Competition held at Selwyn House. Congratulations to Isolde and Naomi who placed 2nd in the Regionals and will now head off to the National Competition held in Dunedin. |

Year 5 and 6 Inquiry
Today the Year 5 and 6 team had Ben Kennedy from the University of Canterbury who is a Physical Volcanologist. He put on a display of how a volcano would erupt. The students really enjoyed watching these explosions and learning how a volcano works.

Character Book Parade Today the whole school dressed up as a character from the theme of the week, Read to Reel. The aim was to choose a character from a book that had been made into a movie. There were so many different characters. All of the students paraded around the hall, showing of their creations. |

Writing Workshops with Fifi Colston Today we had a visit from Fifi Colston who is an author and illustrator. She ran a writing workshop for every Year level across the School and also an intensive writing workshops for a group of of students in the afternoon. Students enjoyed hearing and seeing her inspirational talk on writing. |

Grandparents Read Around Today the Grandparents from Years 0 - 4 were invited to read to their Grandchildren. There were a lot of Grandparents throughout the School. The students really enjoyed hearing the stories. This was part of Book week. |

Zone Winter Sports Tournament Today the Year 5 - 8 students competed in the Zone Winter Sports Tournament held at Hagley Park. They competed in Hockey, Netball, Football and Rugby. The results will be available soon. |

CSM Band Concert Today the CSM Band performed in a concert for the school. This is a opportunity for the students who have been practicing their musical instruments to showcase what they have been learning. There are a lot of very talented students across the Schools. |

EPRo8 Finals Tonight the 4 Year 8 students who have been competing in the EPRo8 Challenge worked extremely hard in the finals. This had a new set of challenges and this time they were harder and more challenging. It was a close competition and Naomi, Aurora, Mitchell and Jesse placed 3rd in the Canterbury Competition. Well done team! |

Inquiry Sharing Today the whole school were invited to visit the Year 7 and 8 Hub. This was an opportunity for the students to share their inquiry projects. Previously the Year 0 - 2 students had shared their learning with their parents. There were a lot of interesting projects based on the Term 2 Inquiry focus of 'Diversity'. |

Spelling Quiz Competition Today 2 groups of Year 7 and 8 students participated in the Spelling Quiz Competition. One group placed 1st out of 53 other teams. Well done to everyone who took part. |

Zone Cross Country Congratulations to all students who competed in the South East Zone Cross Country. It was a very challenging day as the conditions were very mudding and wet. Well done to everyone. Those students that placed will now compete at the Canterbury Cross Country event. |

PTA Quiz Night Thank you to all of the families who contributed to the annual Quiz Night by contributing an item for the gift baskets, selling raffle tickets and/or attending the quiz. This ensured a very successful fundraising event with all proceeds going towards upcoming landscaping projects around the school as part of our wider building programme. We had a great turn out with 28 teams competing including teams representing the teachers, learning support staff and Board of Trustees. Congratulations to tonight's winning team Hey Judes (pictured right), who held on for a closely contested victory. Finally, a huge thank you to the PTA and Quiz Master Stuart Cameron for all of their work organising the event. |

EPro8 Challenge Year 5 & 6 Today 2 groups of Year 5 and 6 students competed in the EPro8 Challenge held at Chisnallwood School. The EPro8 Challenge is a competition, an engineering and problem solving race. Both teams worked together to complete a range of building tasks. |

KungFu Lessons Today students from the Year 5 - 8 participated in KungFu Lessons with John. He demonstrated KungFu techniques and then students gave it a go. Students had a lot of fun learning a new skill. |

EPro8 Challenge Year 7 & 8 Tonight 2 groups of Year 7 and 8 students competed in the EPro8 Challenge held at Opawa School. The EPro8 Challenge is a competition, an engineering and problem solving race. Both teams worked together to complete a range of building tasks. The Year 8 Team placed first in the competition and also achieved the top score of 500, which is so far the National high score. Well done, they will now go on to the semi-finals competition. |

Cross Country Today the Year 3 - 8 students competed in our School Cross Country event. There are a number of students who placed and will now head off to the Zone Cross Country event being held on Tuesday 29th May. Well done to everyone who ran today. |

Pink Ribbon Breakfast Today the Year 7 & 8 Girls held the annual Pink Ribbon Breakfast to raise money for the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation. This was organised by a group of students and they provided lots of fun for everyone who attended. There were lots of pink related foods, along with games. |

Junior Cross Country Today the Year 0 - 2 students participated in the Annual Cross Country Event. Today we had great weather and it was wonderful to see everyone complete in this event. |

Year 5 - 6 Willowbank Visit Today the Year 5 and 6 Team visited Willowbank as part of their inquiry immersion. The students were able to look at the habitats of a range of animals. |

House Day Today the students celebrated their house colours and during lunch time took part in a range of exciting team building activities. The activities were planned and organised by the 2018 House Leaders. |

El Grego Elgregoe, an award-winning New Zealand magician, visited our school today. He entertained the kids with fast-paced tricks, puppets, music and more, he also shared powerful anti-bullying messages about positive attitudes, respect and acceptance. |

Top Town Event 7 Schools participated in activities such as naughts and crosses, coyotes, gumboot throwing, memory and water activities. The teams represented the commonwealth countries connecting the upcoming Commonwealth Games. The Schools included, Our Lady Star of the Sea, Linwood College, Heathcote Valley school, Mt Pleasant, Lyttelton Primary, Redcliffs School and Sumner School. The idea of the event was to bring all the schools together and compete in a friendly competition. It also encouraged students to get to know other students from different schools across the Aupaki Kāhui Ako. The Teams represented the Commonwealth countries due to the upcoming games. |

PCT Challenge Blue Light Canterbury 8 Sumner School students took part in the Police Competence Test, Blue Light Challenge. This is an event run every year with teams of 4 Intermediate students participating in physical and mental challenges. The teams have to work together to complete the course as fast as they can. While waiting for their turns there are a range of team building challenges to take part in. |

Duathlon Congratulations to the 17 Sumner School competitors who competed in the challenging Canterbury Duathlon at Ruapuna this past week. With age group fields of up to 200 racers our team did us proud. |

Glendal Exchange Trip to Melbourne
10 Students experienced an overseas exchange trip to Glendal Primary School in Melbourne. They were treated to a range of trips to places around Melbourne including the MCG, Victoria Market, Melbourne Museum, Healesville Sanctuary and many more. Part of this experience was staying with a host family. There are 37 different cultures at Glendal School. They all had a wonderful experience.

Sports with Mr Cole Mr Cole is our Aupaki Coordinator. He has been working with a range of year levels teaching a range of sporting activities. The Year 7 and 8 students have been practicing how to play handball. The Year 5 and 6 students have been practicing Futsal. |

Samoa Fundraising Day Today the whole School dressed in outfits that represented the Samoan culture. Students were asked to bring a gold coin donation to help support areas affected of Samoa from the recent Cyclone. |
