Tēnā koutou katoa. Tēnei te mihi atu ki a koutou.
Welcome to back to Noah C who returned to Sumner School last week and to Jackson K and Lumi K in the new entrant class.
As Stuart, Anna and Phillipa are away supporting our 15 overseas experience students in Vanuatu this week I have the pleasure of adding to the newsletter on their behalf.
Property Update
I'm pleased that by Tuesday next week the Junior adventure playground will be completed in its new resting place under the trees near the Years 7&8 playground. Mrs Gilmore and Miss Bennion's classes have had a successful move from the Te Manawa prefabs and have settled into Rooms 7 & 8. The fences have gone up around the old Te Manawa space in preparation for our building programme to start.
40 Hour Famine
This week we had Cole Yeoman, a Youth Ambassador' from World Vision speak to us at our Assembly. He shared his experiences of going to Uganda to directly see what happened to the money raised by the 40 Hour Famine. He also celebrated the huge success Sumner School students had raising $5586. He explained that this amount of money could directly help up to 98 children. This was an important connection and message for our Sumner students to make about the needs of some children in other countries.
Robocup Regional Competition
Congratulations to our three groups of students from the Years 7&8 team who competed in the Robotics competition held at Selwyn House last month. Congratulations to Isolde and Naomi who placed 2nd in this regional competition and who will now be heading off with Mrs Granger to the National competition held in Dunedin in a week.
Cultural Festival
Today the 45 students in the school Kapahaka group will be performing at the Cultural Festival at the Horncastle Arena with schools from around Canterbury. We thank Miss McRae and Timi for all their hard work with our Kapahaka group and wish them all the best for tonights event.
