Special Newsletter - Building and Move Update
Kia ora e te whānau,
Over the past week we have been busily packing and preparing for the move of Awaroa, Te Onepoto, Rapanui and our library into their new spaces during the second week of the school holidays. We are really excited to be able to share these with you at the start of Term Three.
We have a removal company on site from Monday 15 until Wednesday 17 July to move all our furniture and boxes into the new learning spaces. Staff will then be on site on Thursday 18th and Friday 19th to unpack boxes and place furniture into their new learning spaces. The following Monday 22 July will be a Teacher Only Day to enable our final set up of our new learning spaces. MASH will be open for childcare if you require it on this day.
Call 0800 420 520 to book your child in.
This will mean at the start of Term three our school site will look very different again - please see the updated site map for more information about where classrooms will be located.

The completion of the new two storey and library building will enable us to reopen the main entrance on Colenso Street. However, the Office will remain in the temporary location at the back of the hall until the new Administration Building is completed in the middle of Term Three. As we now have access to Colenso Street entrance we will be moving our Road Crossing back to its usual position by Colenso and Whitfield Streets. This will continue to be teacher led until Citycare has completed the construction of the Admin Building and then the students will lead our Road Patrol Crossing again.
I am aware that this move will mean a change in routines for many of you, especially on the first morning back. Below are the details relevant to the individual teaching teams - this will give you more information about how the first day back will look. |
Rapanui (Years 0-2)
On the first day of Term Three, Tuesday 23 July, the Rapanui learners, Room 1 - Miss Hannah Bennion, Room 2 - Miss Bridget Scoular and Mrs Anne Blackmore-Smith, the new Room 3 - Miss Emma Browne-Cole, Room 4 - Mrs Johanni Gilmore, Mrs Andrea McKendry, Room 5 - Mrs Sue Bird, and Room 6 - Mrs Ronene Kelland students will be able to go straight to their new spaces in the old Awaroa Year 7 and 8 block.
Teachers will be in class from 8:30am ready to welcome their students. Students will be able to hang their bags on their hooks or in their bag cubby, and get ready for the day. The bell will ring at 9am for a normal school day. At the end of the day we ask that parents wait outside in the courtyard, or on the deck if wet, ready to pick up their children.

You are all warmly invited to attend the short blessing ceremony for our new buildings. See the invite opposite for more information.
Our focus for our first two or three weeks in our new spaces is re-establishing our class expectations and routines within our new spaces. Teachers have carefully planned their programmes to enable all of our children to have a positive transition into their new class spaces and to enable learning and programmes as normal. We know many parents will be excited to come in and see the spaces and we welcome this from Tuesday afternoon pick up time where you will be able to pop in to classrooms. We will then be inviting parents for a formal ‘Open Morning’ session which we will advertise early Term Three. And Finally...many thanks to Jo Covell-Burger (Mrs C-B) for her hard work with our new entrants in Room 3 for the last 5 weeks. Jo will be handing over Room 3 to Emma Browne-Cole from the start of Term Three and then heading into Awaroa with our Year 7 and 8 students for the remainder of the year as Phillipa Finch's Maternity Cover. |
All that remains to say is have a wonderful holiday with your families. Stay safe, warm and dry, and I will see you all on Tuesday 23 July.

Have you downloaded our new School App yet?

This App will become our main method of communication with you as it allows us to send subscribed users alerts, updates and reminders directly to their phones. Subscribed users will also have access to a simplified method of notifying the school of their child’s absence, access to the school calendar which can be synced to your own Google Calendar and access to important school links all in one place. Throughout the remainder of Term Two we will use both our regular email and the school app to communicate with you, but at the start of Term Three our main method of communication will be via the App. It is really important to note that this will also be our communication tool with you in case of emergencies, so please make sure you have downloaded it.
To download, head to the Apple App Store or Android Google Play and search for School Apps. You are welcome to share the App with any Whānau members who may need to be in connection with the school, but please note for safeguarding purposes we have asked for it to be password protected and you will therefore be required to enter a password on download. This information and further download instructions have been sent to you via email. We also ask that this is kept as an adult only communication tool and ask that no students have access to this App on their phones.
Term 2 Activities
Requests for payment of Term 2 activities will be emailed to parents next week. We would appreciate if these could be settled before the start of Term 3. Please note I am unable to show any credit on your child's account on these Requests, but you can view this by logging into the Parent Portal
