Tēnā koutou katoa. Tēnei te mihi atu ki a koutou.
Welcome to the Hayley F who has joined Te Manawa this week.
It is my pleasure to write the newsletter this week as Stuart is away representing Sumner School at the World Positive Education Conference for the remainder of the term.
Celebration of Learning
The school terms seem to speed past at an ever increasing rate of knots and the end of Term 2 is already fast approaching. I spoke to the students at assembly on Monday about how easy it is to get caught up in the fast pace of the term and forget to pause for a moment and consider the opportunities and experiences that have occurred during the last 9 weeks.
Our whole school curriculum concept of Diversity has really caught the imaginations of our students and it has been fantastic to see all of the classrooms this week busily putting the finishing touches to their learning inquiries. I have been impressed by the diverse and creative ways that our students have chosen to present their learning on this concept. Yesterday the Years 3 and 4 Team shared their learning with the community at their 'Survive and Thrive Museum' and earlier today the whānau of students in Years 0-2 were invited into school to share in a Language and Discovery morning. Thank you to all of you who took the opportunity to come into school to provide an audience for our students' learning. The Years 5 and 6 and Years 7 and 8 Teams will be sharing their inquiries during Learning Conferences next week.
Alongside all of this fantastic learning in the classrooms there have been the other opportunities that we have available for our students which give a breadth and depth to our curriculum. These include the numerous sport, music, lunchtime and after school clubs, competitions and experiences that our students have become involved in. These opportunities are down to the hard work and dedication of our fantastic teachers, support staff, whānau and the wider community. A huge ‘Thank You’ goes to everyone who have dedicated time and energy to supporting Sumner School this term.
Learning Conferences
Our student led Learning Conferences are next week - Tuesday 3 July (1.40-8pm) and Thursday 5 July (1.40-6pm). This is a fantastic time to share in your child(ren)'s learning so far this year and also an opportunity to discuss any questions you may have with your child(ren)'s teacher. Thank you to the families who completed the pre-conference form. During the Learning Conferences class teachers will also share your child(ren)'s mid year report. To book a conference please visit schoolinterviews.co.nz and enter the school code kspb8
Online bookings will remain open until Monday 2 July at 3pm.
Please note that normal classes will cease at 1.30pm on both Learning Conferences days (3 & 5 July). We would really appreciate your child being collected from school at this time but if you are unable to do so, supervision will once again be provided in the school library through until 3pm. If you would like your child(ren) added to the supervision list contact the Office on phone: 326 6546 or email: admin@sumner.school.nz.
How You Can Help at Home
Following the results from the online survey, we have created dedicated pages on our website for how parents can help with their child’s learning at home. Further information about this will be shared with you during Learning Conferences, but you can find the pages here.
And finally...
We wish Kathryn Blunn (Teacher of Room 16) and her fiance Matt the very best of luck as they jet off to Ireland during the holidays for their wedding. Kathryn will be away from school during the first week of Term 3 and Room 16 will be left in the very capable hands of Melanie Bradley.
Have a safe and relaxing holiday. I look forward to seeing you back when school resumes on Monday 23 July.

New Library Web App
We have recently converted to a new library management system. This allows increased functionality, ease of use and automation of many processes. It also features a Web App page allowing students access to the library catalogue anytime, anyplace, on any device.
This key feature enables students to search the catalogue, reserve up to two books at a time and write online book reviews. Each student has a unique login which their teacher has given them.
Please bookmark:
nz.accessit.online/SMN02 (It is case sensitive and it is the number 0, not the letter O)
Please log on and browse around with your child.
There is now a shelf in the library for reserved books. When the book that your child has reserved has been put on hold, a written notification will be placed in their classrooms to let them know that they can come to the library to have the book issued. Senior students will also receive notification to their school email address.
Thank you,
Yvonne Hall
Sumner School librarian
