- Samoan Overseas Learning Experience
- Canterbury Block Update
- Quiz Night
- Raffle
- Learning Conferences
- Disco
On Monday, our Years 7&8 OLE group returned from an action-packed week in Samoa. This was an amazing experience for all involved. One of the undoubted highlights was the school visits we took part in. We received incredibly warm welcomes from both schools. Our children particularly enjoyed spending time in classrooms and meeting their pen pals.
We were also very pleased to see that our shipping container had arrived safely at St Mary’s School in Apia. Below is a message from the principal of St Mary’s:
We are very grateful for the generous support you have shown all this time in trying to get the container prepared for our school. Words aren't enough to thank you for everything you have done for us at St Mary's, Savalalo. God bless, Sr Masela.
The group will be sharing their adventures at the full school assembly on 12 June.
Canterbury Block Update
After weeks of frustrating delays, we are delighted to finally see some real progress being made on the Canterbury Block. We will keep you updated as this develops but at this stage we are still working towards opening the newly refurbished building on the first day of next term. Exciting times ahead!
Sumner School Quiz Night
Preparations are now underway for the annual Quiz Night which will take place on Friday 23 June (Week 8). Tickets are $15 per person and will be available from the School Office soon. You might like to start getting your teams of 4-6 people together. Friends and family are welcome but please remember this is an R18 event.
We are hoping to see a big crowd there on the night battling it out for Sumner School trivial pursuit supremacy and vying for the coveted Sumner School Quiz Trophy. All of the funds raised from this event will go towards our new Library/Wellbeing Centre.
Raffle
As part of the Quiz evening we will once again be running a raffle draw. This has proven to be a fantastic fundraiser for us in the past. The raffle prizes will consist of one gift basket per class (16 in total). To help us fill these baskets with goodies, we are asking for each child to bring something small to contribute to a class gift basket. This could be anything ranging from a bottle of wine, a gift voucher or scented candles. You are welcome to drop your basket item off to your child’s class teacher starting next week.
The 16 gift baskets will be drawn on the night of the quiz. You do not have to be in attendance to claim a prize. A book of 10 raffles tickets will be sent home on Thursday the 8 June and will need to be returned with the money no later than Thursday 22 June please. If your child cannot sell the tickets for any reason, please return the unused tickets to school as soon as possible so we can attempt to sell them or feel free to purchase them yourself.

Learning Conferences
Please diary Tuesday 4 July (1.40-8pm) and Thursday 6 July (1.40-6pm) for the upcoming mid-year Learning Conferences. This is the last week of the term. Please note that classes will cease at 1.30pm on both days. Once again we will be providing supervision in the Library for those children that cannot be collected at this time.
More detail about the Learning Conferences will be emailed out to families in the near future.
Disco
Finally, I would like to thank the PTA, Anna Granger and the Student School Council for all of the work they have put into organising this evening’s Disco. I’m sure it will be a fun night for all involved. A reminder that all children must be collected from the Hall Foyer immediately after each disco regardless of their age group.
Have a great weekend.
Nga mihi
