The end of the school year is rapidly approaching with only a couple of weeks to go until the holidays. There is much to do in that time with the last two weeks of term promising to be jammed-packed with activities.
Prize Giving Ceremony
This year’s senior (Years 5-8) Prize Giving Ceremony will take place at 6pm on 12 December in the Hall. Although a large part of this event is focussed on our Year 8 leavers, the expectation is that all Years 5-8 students will attend Prize Giving. Please note that all children need to attend in school uniform.
Class Placements 2018
Thank you to the parents who have written in with specific class requests for next year based on exceptional circumstances. This opportunity has now closed. The teachers are now working their way through the rather complex task of compiling the new class lists.
The children will have the chance to meet their new teacher and classmates on Monday 18 December. Class lists will be sent home later that day.
School Finishes at 12.30pm on Tuesday 19 December
Please note that the school year will conclude at 12.30pm on Tuesday 19 December. Please make arrangements to collect your child from their class at this time. If you are unable to do so, MASH is open at the earlier time of 12.30pm. Please call 0800 420520. If you wish to book your child in.
Parent Helpers’ Morning Tea Invitation
The Board of Trustees would like to invite all parents, grandparents and friends of the school who have assisted with any school related activities or events along to our annual Parent Helpers Morning Tea at 10.30pm on Monday 11 December in the Staffroom. This is an occasion for the Board and staff to thank our community, without whose help, we wouldn’t be able to offer all of the amazing opportunities we do for our children.
There is no need to RSVP. We look forward to seeing you on the 11th.
Garden Tour
Speaking of parent support, I would like to thank Kirsty Ruppell and her dedicated team of helpers for organising the Gardens of Sumner tour last Sunday. This was a real team effort and a fantastic event to be part of. A special thank you of course goes to the Sumner Garden owners who generously shared their stunning gardens with us.
Have a great weekend.

Triathlon
Well done to all who competed in the Sumner and Our Lady Star of the Sea combined triathlon. It was great to see so many individuals and teams giving this challenging event a go. For all those who went on to compete in Wednesday's Canterbury Triathlon you did the school and South East Zone proud. I know for many the lake swim is always a daunting prospect, whether it is the temperature, the number of swimmers jostling for position or just the look of the weed hiding under the surface. While there were many excellent results in some large competitor fields, some of particular note were Callum G 3rd, Ava H 4th, Amelia S 8th and Cameron M 10th. Please see a full list of results below. Thank you to the thirty plus parents who assisted in running the event(s).
The last event on the sporting calendar is the Canterbury Athletics Champs on Wednesday 6th December in Ashburton. All athletes have to be at school ready to board the bus at 6.30am. We will be back at Sumner School by 5pm (approximately).
Thank you for your ongoing support.

Term 4 Activity Costs
A special request to parents to please settle Term 4 costs before the end of term. Please email if you require another statement, or check your child's account via the Parent Portal.
We have many parents with unpaid costs for bus travel, which is meant to be paid before the event. Unfortunately the school is not able to cover the cost of travel to sports days and the cost of the bus relies on every student who participated paying, so prompt payment would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you to all the families who have paid these costs already.

Gifts for The City Mission
Help give less able Kiwi families the gifts they deserve this Christmas by donating a new toy under the tree in the Office either wrapped or unwrapped. Ray White gift tags are available at the Office to specify what age and gender the toy is intended for. Thank you for your generosity. |
